Our Myers Cocktail IVs are given with high dose B12, and B-Vitamins.  

IVs are typically suggested by our Naturopaths 1x weekly for 3-4 weeks to enhance energy and mood. 

It's a quick IV - takes out 10 minutes to administer these nutrients intravenously. 

Patients often get a "booster" infusion once every 4-6 weeks.

Mechanistic synergy is expected between the Myers and Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy as the Myers contains substrate for the Krebs Cycle which then provides electron donors for the ETC to make ATP which is Oxygen dependant.

Myers Cocktail - Background

In 1984, Dr. John Myers passed away and a number of his patients came to the office of Dr. Alan Gaby MD requesting the same IV nutrient injections they had received for up to the last 25 years from Dr Myers. Dr. Gaby concocted what he could gather was a similar IV therapy injection and began using it in his clinical practice. Over the next 16 years he administered about 15 000 myers cocktail injections and has written about his clinical experience. The intravenous treatments our Naturopathic Doctors use are based on his original writings. 

Myers Cocktail - Contents 

Originally, the Myers was done in a fairly small (20ml) syringe. The most commonly used regimen for adults was 4 ml of magnesium, 2 ml of calcium, 1 ml each of B12, B6, B5, and B complex, 6 ml of C, and 8 ml of sterile water. 

Our Naturopathic clinic offers Edmonton a larger, stronger version of this that's evolved over 9 years of administration that's given either as a push or a small volume IV that has double doses of most of the B Vitamins as well as added Riboflavin (was not part of the original IV) and up to 10x the dose of B12 all in a 60 cc syringe or as a small volume IV bag treatment. 

Myers Cocktail - What is it used for? 

Dr. Gaby found it useful for the following conditions: Fatigue, Migraine, Asthma, Fibromyalgia, Depression, Upper Respiratory Tract Infections, Seasonal Allergy, Narcotic Withdrawal, Chronic Hives, Athletic Performance, Hyperthyroidism and COPD.

Myers Cocktail - What are the Side Effects? 

In our thousands of administrations the overall incidence of side effects seen by our Naturopaths is extremely low. Because of the high concentration of the IV, patients can sometimes feel some discomfort at the site of the vein. The magnesium causes a distinct warming sensation and this can sometimes lead to lightheadedness if administered too rapidly. The sensation of warm is often described as "peeing oneself" because it commonly localizes to the groin area and anecdotally has elicited an orgasm in some patients, but not at our clinic. 

Myers Cocktail - How many treatments do I need? 

Many patients that respond well to the Myers will feel the effect within 24 hours. This first IV treatment will have an effect for typically 3-5 days. Our Naturopathic doctors usually recommend repeat treatments weekly for 4 weeks to provide a sustained effect. Following this we usually do an IV treatment 2-3 weeks after and then monthly as a "booster" IV. Synergy is expected if a Myers is done after a Hyperbaric Chamber dive.
