Food Allergy & Sensitivity TestingOur Naturopaths often start with Food Allergy or Food Sensitivity Testing for many patients with digestive issues. Our Naturopathic Doctors strongly consider Food Allergy or Food Sensitivity Testing when a patient's dietary analysis is laden with common allergens. Our Naturopaths use three separate Food testing methodologies: IgG/IgE testing, Total IgG Testing and Isolated IgE testing. Your Naturopath at TruMed will suggest the best test for your particular digestive issues. Studies support the use of Food Sensitivity & Food Allergy Testing in IBS patients. In a 2004 clinical trial, 150 IBS patients were tested for IgG food sensitivities and then put on a diet based of of their unique test results. After 12 weeks there was a 26% reduction in IBS symptom score in those patients. Our Naturopaths typically see larger than 26% improvement in our IBS patients with IgG Food Sensitivity testing when its correctly chosen for a patient's particular case. Our Naturopaths sometimes will run a combined IgG4/IgE Food Allergy Test in IBS patients. We find this type of testing particularly helpful for when patient exhibit relatively rapid reactions to ingesting their offending foods. |

Digestive TestingOur Naturopaths often run a Digestive Stool Analysis "CDSA" to see various digestive parameters. It is common to see a lack of beneficial bacteria (Lactobacillus, Bifidobacteria, Clostridia etc) or overgrowth of commensal or dysbiotic bacteria on a stool analysis. Common dysbiotic bacteria our Naturopaths see are Klebsiella and Citrobacter which are hydrogen sulfide species that can cause gas, bloating, diarrhea or constipation in what we call "hydrogen sulfide SIBO." CDSA testing tells us about flora as well as inflammation, immune function and digestive ability. Stool analysis can also let our Naturopathic Doctors know about imbalanced yeast overgrowths as well as parasitic infections affecting your digestion. By far, the most common gut yeast we see is Candida albicans. Candida can cause gas and bloating but it is implicated in numerous allergic and autoimmune diseases likely because of its gut disrupting actions. Our NDs may run an isolated Stool Microbiology or Comprehensive Parasitology instead of a CDSA if we want to only see if there is a bacterial, yeast or parasitic imbalance. IV Therapy & Digestive IssuesIV Therapy naturally bypasses the digestive tract as nutrients are put directly into the blood. Intravenous treatment can boost nutrient status when absorption is compromised from a digestive issue. In particular, we've seen Crohn's, Colitis and Celiac can patients improve dramatically from IV Therapy. IV Glutathione is also a favorite for reducing inflammation in Inflammatory Bowel Disease. Occasionally, we're using IV therapy for rehydration for patients with vomiting or diarrhea. |
