Naturopath Cancer Support

Chemotherapy and Radiation. 

Our Naturopathic treatments are carefully researched not to interact adversely with standard treatments. 

Our goals are to enhance standard therapies and reduce unwanted side effects in our Edmonton patients.

We typically provide patients a protocol of supplements, dietary changes and IV Therapies. 

Melatonin & Curcumin are common recommendations to improve response and reduce side effects from Radiation therapy.


For instance, Curcumin has been shown to reduce the severity of radiation dermatitis in breast cancer patients in a 2013 Clinical trial without affecting the efficacy of the radiation. So along with melatonin it's one of our Naturopaths' favorite treatment recommendations along with radiation. 


Coriolus mushroom is one of the most studied natural agents in the world.


An extract called PSK from Coriolus has a review published covering its use in 31 cancer trials in over 9600 patients and in some instances doubling 5 year survival rates when given in combination with chemotherapy. Coriolus has been studied in treatment of gastric, esophageal, colorectal, breast and lung cancers.

Integrative Cancer Treatment in Edmonton

Intravenous Vitamin C Therapy 

We work with IV Vitamin C at our Naturopathic clinic for it's oxidative characteristics with regards to Alternative Cancer treatment.


Vitamin C is a well known anti-oxidant, however, in high intravenous doses it also behaves in an oxidative fashion.


High dose IV Vitamin C can generate hydrogen peroxide and other reactive oxygen species that can be damaging to cancer cells as they have an inherent low levels of an enzyme called catalase.


Vitamin C IV is also thought to decrease hypoxia inducible factor-1α "HIF-1," which regulates numerous pro-survival genes. 

Our Naturopaths have administered High dose Vitamin C since 2010. We are able to give doses between 25 and 125 grams per session as a Cancer treatment usually at a dose between 1 and 1.5g/kg.


IV Vitamin C infusions are usually given twice weekly for about 20 treatments.

Lower intravenous Vitamin C doses (2.5–10 g/infusion) have been shown to decrease cancer and chemotherapy-related symptoms and improve quality of life. Our Naturopathic Doctors are also able to add additional supportive nutrients to further improve energy and wellbeing. 


Human trials have shown no adverse effects from combining High Dose Intravenous Vitamin C with a number of different chemotherapy agents and in many cases the IV Vitamin C treatment decreased toxicity and improved quality of life was observed.


There is data that Intravenous Vitamin C can enhance sensitivity to specific anti-cancer drugs as well. See below for more information on Intravenous Vitamin C.


A 2011 study reported that 7.5g of IV Vitamin C in breast cancer patients resulted in a reduction in symptoms caused by the Cancer and chemotherapy and radiation - nausea, loss of appetite, fatigue, depression, sleep disturbances and dizziness were areas that improved. 


Because of the oxidative mechanism, synergy is expected between oxidative cancer therapies like high dose IV Vitamin C and Hyperbaric Oxygen which is a service we offer at our Edmonton office.

Our Naturopaths work with advanced Natural therapies including Artemesinin, IV ALA, *LDN and IV Vitamin C.

IV Vitamin C is probably the best known IV Naturopathic & Alternative cancer treatment. 

IV ALA is one of our favorite metabolic cancer supports which is mechanistically synergistic with Hyperbaric oxygen therapy. 

Our Naturopathic Doctors typically structure a protocol for our patients using metabolic, oxidative and anti-oxidant treatments.

If possible, we'll track tumor markers for your particular cancer to gauge efficacy of whatever treatment we are using. Common tumor markers we test: CEA, CA-125, AFP, LDH, CA 19-9. If your cancer does not have a tumor marker we can request a scan to see measurable differences.
